Do you believe that there are a few people who are immune to being accused of the bullshit? Yes? Is Bernie Sanders one of them? Or does the left treat him like a god, just like the right treats president Trump as a god? The reason I say that is because I want to know whether people treat other politicians’ words with the same scrutiny as a select few politicians (like Trump).
Let me explain. I saw this post on factcheck.org about president Trump being demonized. The president gave an interview about the corona virus, where he said that the mortality rate of the virus seems really even though it’s 3.4%. His reasoning was that people who don’t have the severe case of the virus don’t go to the doctor and just go about their day and go to work. In this way, a lot of cases don’t get reported because a lot of people go to work and let their infections heal. In this way, the mortality rate should be lower, as the unreported cases aren’t being considered in this scenario. A logical argument, right? Maybe worded confusingly by the president, but it’s logical none the less.
Now a lot of politicians like Mr. Sanders, are responding to this by claiming that the president is saying, “doesn’t matter, go to work.” Now hold on a minute. Where in his argument did you hear the orange man say, “go to work?” This was followed by many other politicians saying, “don’t listen to the stupid things the president says?” I would’ve made a horrible politician, I tell you. Party politics is one thing but demonizing someone by taking their words out of context is just plain stupid.
I’m not defending president Trump, but I’m pointing out the hypocrisy. Sanders bent Trump’s words in order to prove one of his points, because he was trying to state that people can’t go to the doctors because they don’t have healthcare. You can not just change someone’s words to prove a point you have, while demonizing the person. This trend is just called scapegoating. Now I’m not saying that the president never says anything stupid, but when this is a pandemic. One should keep politics aside and try to keep the nation calm instead trying to mobilize it against because you are going against them in an election.
I’ve been a strong advocate of looking at things from a neutral stance and analyzing them to see what they are truly saying, and then arguing whether you align with it or not. This is a simple process to follow in order to avoid bullshit like this. What makes this type of bullshit the most dangerous is that it can defame you in minutes. No one can phrase things perfectly, which is why we need to think before we write or speak something. Thinking about the consequences or the interpretations of your statements is more important than making those statements. That is why I always advocate people to “use YOUR brain LOGICALLY.” Your brain handles logic and heart handles emotions, don’t lose control of your mind, because then people are free to say that you’ve lost your mind.
