Well I got sad news and happy news for you this week kids.
The happy news is that our county does have the capability to come together and take decisions that can make a difference in the better direction. Let me tell you what happened. So… today (Friday) the president signed an executive order to aid the efforts against human trafficking. There was a White House summit about the topic, which was organized by the president’s daughter. As a part of the new budget, we are going to be spending 400 million to help victims assimilate into society. I love the initiative to make better changes for our society, but if you ask me this is a small amount to address a nationwide and international problem. The trauma and grief the victims must’ve gone through is fucking unimaginable. There’s no price that can be put on something like that. This goes beyond just politics and numbers; it directly affects people and their lives. I believe that a person’s ability to life their life is guided by their experiences and how they shape them. Stemming off this belief, I feel that the victims who’ve had their lives taken away from them should be given a lot of resources to allow them to just be able to live a normal life.
Trauma and grief need time and resources, which is why I wanted to talk about this topic. I went through major trauma, and I deal with it everyday and every moment. Having the resources can mean the difference between making a life and breaking a life. Unfortunately for my wife, I could’ve done so much. I could’ve given her so many resources … but alas.
Another 50 million is going to be spent on the getting justice for the victims. This would be going to the justice department to expand it and give it more resources to track down rings of human trafficking.
I believe that it was a great move by Ms. Melania, because she invited many organizations and victims to speak out and spread awareness. I think that this was really important to do because the problem exists, and it’s hiding in plain sights. What surprised me more is not the fact that this problem exists, but that your neighbor could be into it and you may never even think of suspecting it. This is what makes it harder to crack down on this problem. What surprised me even more was when that funny guy Ricky Gervais called out so many actors for being friends with Jeffery Epstein. Speaking of which. What the fuck! Is no one going to address that? Epstein was involved in a child sex ring, and when he got arrested and was going to give his testimony, he carefully died? That just reeks of bullshit to me. This problem is hiding in plain sight and is getting bigger and bigger with the advent of internet, because there are more ways people can access the rings and create more market for victims.
Hearing the experiences from the victims helps others like us try to understand their trauma, and even if we can’t understand it, we can give them the resources of the space to rehabilitate themselves. The organizations also gave many examples and signs to spot possible victims, which can prove beneficial for possible victims who are seeking out help.
What bugs me most is that some organizations refused to come to the summit or accept the aid. The reason they gave was that they don’t want to associate themselves with politics associated with the moment. Can we step aside from our bullshit about being republican or democrat for a second and actually use our brains to think of what’s important and help the ones in need?
